In 2001, with a degree in Art History and many years spent working in art galleries and museums in London, I decided on a change of career.
Having long been a passionate gardener I re-trained in Garden Design at the English Gardening School, based at the Chelsea Physic Garden, obtaining the accolade of Top Student in 2002.
Following on from this success I combined forces with a fellow EGS student to build a courtyard garden at the 2002 Chelsea Flower Show - 'Highflyers Haven' which won a Silver-Gilt medal.

The brief was to transform this previously unuseable and unloved space and to make the most of the relatively small area, creating a garden for entertaining friends, whilst providing a beautiful view from the house.
We designed a bespoke, built-in, curved bench from iroko to match the new cladding on the walls.
This offered the maximum amount of seating around the burner, which also doubles as a low circular table.
Additional 'floating' tables nestle within the raised planter behind the bench.
Sunken lighting within the paving gives this garden a second life as a party space at night.

The brief was to transform this previously neglected garden with a dated 80's red brick terrace and central concrete path into a smart, bright and easy to maintain garden.
The clients work from home in the garden office and wanted to be able to access this in all weathers and also at night.
So a curving porcelain path and subtle lighting make this possible.
A terrace area, perfect for dining al fresco, really lightens this previously dark back garden.
A new deck made from recycled plastic links the office to the path.

A new copper and glass extension to this 18th Century farmhouse left the courtyard garden needing to bridge the gap between modern extension and the rest of the garden, including a traditional stone boundary wall.
The brief was to create a space that looked beautiful year-round since it would be the main view from the new kitchen.
For the planting we interspersed formal domes of yew with wispy grasses complimented by pops of colour through the year from a selection of perennials and bulbs suited to this fairly dry and shady area.

The brief was to transform this long, narrow garden, which had been visually cut in half by an old overgrown shrub, making it feel much shorter than it's generous 40 metres.
The clients wanted a sunny area to sit and eat as well as a private space outside the home office for a mid-morning coffee.
The garden was designed as a series of 'rooms' with a curved, sinuous path linking all the areas.
This path and the carefully placed hedges encourage exploration through the garden; the hedging both hiding and revealing enticing views.

Chloe was given a tough brief: to make a small garden feel large; to create something low maintenance; and to select planting resilient to an excitable puppy. She came up with an imaginative and bold design that creates interest in all seasons, and is attractive both day and night. We were impressed with her attention to detail and her eye for interesting shapes and colours. She is extremely easy to work with, and was very patient. Her contractor was also highly skilled, hardworking and efficient. We are thrilled with the garden she and her team created for us.

Garden design for town garden incorporating a large terrace area, path and circular lawn with planting plans.
Chloe was very easy to work with coming up with original ideas whilst listening to and reflecting our preferences. An ideal designer if you have some of your own ideas too as working together as a client and designer worked extremely well.
Chloe produced work conscientiously in a timely manner, meeting any deadlines agreed. She recommended two to three contractors for quotes and they all seemed very professional, The one selected to do the work was excellent with very high attention to detail.
We are very pleased with the finished garden - it has transformed the space and how we enjoy the whole area.
We are continuing to work with Chloe; now on a small formal garden at the front of the property. We are also going to use her recommended contractor again.

We are very pleased to recommend Chloe Wood as a garden designer. Sh eimmediately understood the brief and came up with interesting planting ideas. However she is very amenable to changes and we had to limit some of her ideas due to budget constraints and suggested some alternative plants. The plants have all thrived and the area looks wonderful. We were extremely pleased with the landscaper that she recommended, Matthew Ellett and his team.
It was altogether an excellent experience, and very professionally executed and it is agreat pleasure to work with Chloe.

It was really great working with Chloe from Chloe Wood Garden Design: she was creative, helpful, flexible, supportive and friendly throughout our garden project. We changed our mind several times on planting plans and design features and she was extremely amenable. The landscaper she suggested was great, and overall we are delighted with our beautiful new garden!
