Based in Cheltenham, Claire Baker is an enthusiastic and imaginative gardener with an instinct for combining shapes, colours and textures to achieve a balance between harmony and contrast in the garden. I truly believe that a garden should surprise, inspire and delight - whilst providing a place for reflection, relaxation and escape from the outside world.
And for a garden design to be successful, it's as important to understand the space within its setting as much as how it is to be used. I'd like to think that colour, creativity and attention to detail are the hallmarks of my approach. Visualising my designs clearly in my mind, I often render them as artist's impressions so that clients can see easily how their wish list will translate from initial concept into their finished garden.
I'm just as happy to create a simple planting scheme as I am to revamp a dejected corner or design a totally new garden. So, whether you just need a few ideas to take forward in your own time or a fully project-managed garden makeover, do get in touch to discuss your plans and thoughts.

My interest in garden design and gardening dates back to growing up in part of a garden laid out by Gertrude Jekyll.
In 2019 I fulfilled a long-held dream and took a diploma course in Creative Garden Design and Planting at the Cotswold Gardening School, gaining distinction, which gave me confidence to begin offering advice professionally to clients.
I always aim to be flexible, sensitive to clients' requirements and to keep everyone up to speed at all stages of their project.
It is especially rewarding when clients want a collaborative relationship, but not everyone has the time to be closely involved in the process, in which case you need to know your trust is well-placed, and that your expectations in terms of timescale, budget and the finished garden will be met.

Having laid a stunning white porcelain terrace at their totally refurbished Cheltenham home in 2019, the owners wanted to further enhance the space to make an exciting contemporary garden.
The brief was to create a garden that could be enjoyed from the new terrace in good weather and from inside all year round.
Lighting, minimal structural planting and a water feature were also important.
The design features a bed of white, pink and grey 'Flamingo' stone chippings which wraps entirely around the terrace and embraces a square water feature.

Under the ownership of Simon Willson-White and chef Thomas Conway, The Seven Tuns in Chedworth is raising the bar for superb hospitality and cuisine in its unique Cotswold setting.
Not only are Simon and Tom passionate about creating a distinctive, stylish village pub, but they also aim to weave sustainability into all aspects of the business.
In Summer 2019 I was asked to produce a pollinator-friendly planting scheme to complement improvements being made to the terrace.
The brief was to provide 'wow-factor' colour from spring through to the end of autumn, not just easy evergreen planting.
