We have been farming in Kesgrave since 1932 from fruit trees to the vibrant garden centre and farm shop that is is today. All the team have a qualification in horticulture or floristry or a keen interest in nature, wildlife and gardening. They like to be able to share their knowledge and help our customers to the best of their ability. Paul and Ruth could not do this without them.
Ruth is a member of the Garden Media Guild. She enjoys writing online, including the gardening tips on our website, and has written for the East Anglian, Suffolk Magazine and Horticulture Week. She has a website where she writes about her love of flowers and YouTube channel 'Ruth Goudy - the Flower Writer' where she shares her love of flowers and their folklore.
Ruth's grandparents bought Kesgrave Fruit Farm in 1932. Plums were sold to local wholesalers, strawberries and blackcurrants were sent by rail from Bealings station to Covent Garden as well as other parts of the country and apples went to the Glasgow market by lorry.

Services
We grow so many plants that it would be hard to list them all here but we'd love to welcome you to wander around our nursery to see what we have.
We grow most of our shrubs on site at the nursery.
We are often complimented on the health of our plants and we believe that this is because they have been grown outdoors in the same environment and weather that our customers experience in their own gardens.
We start with 3ltr pots but also grow some specimens in 7.5ltr and 10ltr pots.
Lots of our shrubs are on display on our A-Z bed.

We do our best to stock what our customers ask for and over the years we have built up a store of goods that people find useful.
We are pleased to stock many varieties of compost and particularly Peat Free and Peat Reduced compost.
This is kinder to the environment because digging peat impacts on the ozone layer as it is a carbon store.
It is also affecting birds and wildlife that would have flourished in the area.
Please feel free to ask us for advice on what is best for your needs.
Besides multi-purpose, we have ericaceous, tub and basket, organic garden, rose, tree and shrub, bark chip and wood chip, farmyard manure and compost with John Innes.

You can see lots of our farm shop produce in the field as you come down the drive to the nursery.
We pick our runner beans, rhubarb, butternut squash, beetroot, courgettes, leeks and marrows freshly each day when they are in season.
For the flower lovers we also cut our own grown pinks, sweet peas and chrysanthemums.
We always try to source other products as locally as we can.
We sell local potatoes, free range eggs and greens from Spalding in Lincolnshire.
If you fancy a treat we also have homemade cakes from The Mixing Bowl and local ice-cream from Suffolk Meadow!

Autumn really is the best time for planting in your garden.
It gives plants time to settle in so that they establish well and give good growth in the spring.
We recommend putting in shrubs and trees now to give structure.
If you drive along the Main Road at Kesgrave you will also have seen that our pumpkins are growing in the field.
We will be harvesting them in October so come in to choose your perfect pumpkin.
Every one is different.

We are sad to say that our Coffee Shop remains closed as we are still trying to make room within the nursery building to enable customers and staff to stay safe.
We had hoped that by spring 2021 we would all be in a very different place to where we are now.
Thank you for your support.
From May we are delighted to be welcoming 'The Coffee Station' every Thursday from 10am until 2pm.
John and Dave will be serving Paddy and Scott's takeaway coffees, sweet treats, Danish pastries, scones and sausage rolls.
