Melanie Driver Landscape & Garden Design
A professional landscape and garden design service established in 2001, we design residential and commercial projects in East Anglia, London and beyond for private clients and architects. We take great care to ensure that the design is appropriate for the character and location of individual sites, whether its an urban courtyard or a large country garden.
Services
The initial design brief discussion is about overall style, uses and function of the garden, restrictions, possibilities and finally a wish list of plants and features.
If the project is within 25 miles of Central Cambridge, this meeting is free of charge.
The following services will be quoted following this brief.
A detailed planting plan showing placement of plant varieties, images, numbers, spacing and a planting schedule.
This service can be provided independently but accurate measurement is necessary.
Design a complete garden including planting and hard landscaping, lighting, water, sculpture, etc.
Develop and refocus an existing garden to revitalise and improve the look and function of the space.
Design a planting scheme created to suit the gardens aspect/ soil type reflecting your preferred style choices ie colour, scent, seasonal dynamism, texture, movement and maintenance level.
Following the agreed design, we prepare detailed construction drawings, setting out plans and specifications for materials on which the landscape contractor will base a quote.
Once the design for your new garden has been agreed, detailed plans, drawn from a land survey will be required to accurately build it.
Specifications for materials and fixed elements like stone, wood, planters, water features, lighting, sculptures etc.

Thank you for coming round to discuss our next garden project, as you could see the garden you designed here still looks brilliant.
It has been a delight throughout the whole year and attracts many compliments as well as loads of lovely butterflies.
You have turned a standard tidy looking small garden into a delightful place to be in or look out on to.
Melanie was a great inspiration to work with.
She carefully looked at our house and how we "operated" before coming up with a fabulous garden design that certainly has a "wow" factor and flowed seamlessly with the outside proportions of the property.

We had a very good experience with Melanie Driver Landscape and Garden Design. We had various design consultation meetings and she worked with us throughout to check we were happy with the designs and as it was being implemented.
The end result is perfect for us and is not something we would have thought of ourselves, but creates a very beautiful and practical outside space for us which is relatively low-maintenance. Melanie listened carefully to our brief and included various plants and features we wanted to keep or add, while coming up with lots of innovations. She also recommended a very good landscape gardener for the heavy work who was very efficient.

We are extremely happy with the design and ongoing support and advice Melanie has given us. We have a long south facing town garden which was heavily shaded by neighbours' trees and was mainly compacted lawn. We wanted a path to the shed, more planting areas and a garden pond for wildlife, She listened to our requirements, came up with a couple of really stunning designs that suit the aspect, soil and my interest in gardening. The landscaping was completed this summer. We absolutely love our garden now - it has changed our usage of it and it is very exciting to watch the pond develop and the planting evolve.
Mel recommended some landscapers who had worked with her before, helped us choose and order the materials. We asked her to do a planting plan and she came up with some beautiful ideas. She has a good knowledge of the area and the soil type so knows what plants will do well here. We ordered the plants through Mel which was great because they have been hard to source this year, and she has been really helpful getting hold of a specimen tree. She also did a lighting plan for the garden which was something we hadn't considered but are really pleased with.
Melanie has been really helpful and responsive when we've had questions, she is professional, knowledgeable, client focussed and I would highly recommend her.

We invited Melanie to help us redesign our gardens - the back garden was essentially a square of grass with a mature silver birch tree whilst the front garden was two evergreen trees set in gravel. Following our initial consultation, she came back with well thought through garden designs where she had sought to take into account all of our requirements (wildlife friendly, native species, a water feature, etc). We changed very little of the design. She then oversaw the physical work, and helped to layout / plant up the gardens. We are delighted with the outcomes.

Melanie designed (and organised hard landscaping and planting) for two gorgeous pocket handkerchief courtyard gardens for our house. Our brief was low maintenance, scented, contemporary. From the very beginning, she worked with us to understand what we liked (and didn’t), making us do our homework to ensure that it is OUR garden. The results are stunning. The outside is brought into the home and I couldn’t be happier! Melanie used the zinc matching our extension for raised beds which creates a harmonious whole. The lightning under the coping looks stunning at night.
The garden exceeded my wildest expectations. Chic, sophisticated, but not over-bearing. Now all I want is the weather to improve to sit out in it! Melanie’s garden is a delight to come home to.
