Fake Landscapes
For those who don't know us, we design and build exterior and interior greenery for what are loosely called 'high-end projects'. Anything from hotels, residential developments and restaurants through to yachts, pools and private houses. Our speciality is outdoor landscaping. Hand-made living walls, boxwood and bay topiary, hedges, ivy screens, cypress trees, window boxes and more.

All UV resistant, wind and water-proof, and to a level of quality well above anything else out there. For interiors, we have handmade trees of all sizes, high-level trailing greenery and flowers to the same high standards. Of course many outdoor items - like green walls and ivy - work indoors equally well. You can get a pretty good feel for our style from the 170+ pictures on this site, all from real-world projects we've completed.

Take your time to go through them, then email us via the contact form with the reference numbers of those you like. Finally, if you're a private customer, live locally, and are looking for exterior greenery, no need to feel excluded!

Just because something says it's 'UV safe' on the label doesn't mean it is.
And where will your internet seller be in a year or so when it turns bright blue and the client shouts at you?!
These pictures are all of actual jobs we've done.
Some of the sites were between five and fifteen years old at the time they were photographed and they still look really good.
People come back to us for project after project because of that.
We've got enough sites under our belt over the past thirty years in all parts of the world to know what will - and won't - work in any particular project.
We hand-build each wall, varying the plant sizes, types and density to suit the viewing distance and the client's preferences.
Some cover over 200m2, others just a little corner of a patio, but they're all very 'three dimensional' and broadly European in terms of species - so they look entirely plausible.
We can do 'tropical' ones as well, but they require a great deal of care to blend the colours and shapes subtly.
There are a lot of eye-wateringly bad ones out there on the internet that look like they're channelling the backdrops to Star Trek, The Original Series!
Making them to fixed height and width proportions means you get the ideal balance with the building right away.
You never have to think 'I wish they'd grow a bit'!
Better than that, they never die or need trimming.
Not to mention having to deal with those sticky seeds and weird yellow pollen that goes everywhere.
As you might guess, the writer has some live ones.
Most of our cypress trees are designed to go in planters.
They need to be well anchored against wind and weather, so suit a cube shape very well.
There was a strong temptation to say that this section was a load of balls, but we -almost - managed to resist it.
Anyway, they're not.
We have cubes, teardrops and lollipops as well!
One of the main things that makes our fake topiary work so well is that it's slightly wonky, much as plants are in nature.
Not a lot, but just enough to fool the eye-brain combo into seeing something organic.
We can do this because we hand-make all of them in our workshops here in London, rather than just import green footballs like everybody seems to!
There are all sorts of reasons for having them - decorative, for privacy, protection from the wind and so on.
In London it's frequently to lose a naff view and/or a naff neighbour!
What matters most is that they have texture, tonal variation and appear three-dimensional.
Otherwise you might just as well paint some plywood dark green.
They also have to 'work' close-up when you're sitting next to them, as well as when you see the building from a distance.
They're harder to get right than it might seem, which is why there are so many awful ones out there.
