Pennells is one of the oldest garden companies in the country and is probably the oldest still in the same family ownership.
The business was founded by a Richard Pennell in 1780.
Today the company is run by the seventh and eighth generations Richard Pennell and his son William Pennell.
The company's first nurseries were situated in what was then, the outskirts of Lincoln next to a small stream called Gowt's Beck, the site of the current Pennell Street.
The first Richard Pennell (1735-1812) was born in Sturton by Stow, Lincolnshire.

The Gardeners Restaurant is a 420 seat modern purpose built building complete with a theatre cooking area to watch the food being prepared in front of you.
As an award winning restaurant it has an excellent reputation for providing our customers with home made food at excellent prices.
The Restaurant also achieved the maximum 5 stars in Business Hygiene from North Kesteven District Council.
There are 2 different hot meals each day with a roast Wednesdays and Sunday as well as many other lighter snacks such as Panini's, jacket potatoes soup etc.
The Restaurant in Cleethorpes holds 140 covers and has achieved the maximum 5 stars in Business Hygiene from North East Lincolnshire Council.

Our standard Afternoon Tea costs 27.99 for two people.
It includes three rounds of sandwiches (choice of fillings), 2 cream scones, 2 Danish pastries, 2 slices of sponge cake, crisps and Tea/coffee for two.

Our extensive menu includes Sunday lunches, lunch time specials, sandwiches, snacks and afternoon tea with delicious homemade cakes.
Good honest homecooked food.
Look out for our lunchtime specials though this Steak Pie has has now become a firm favourite with our customers.
Prime cuts of Lincolnshire beef slowly cooked in a rich sauce then topped with a golden layer of puff pastry.
