Toftwood Garden Centre opened in 2011 as a natural development of Reads Nursery which has been in the growing business since the early 1900's. Reads has been supplying large numbers of independent garden centres throughout East Anglia for many years and their Garden Centre on Shipdham Road allows them to provide the public with high quality products at the right price.
Because Toftwood's range of plants come straight from the nursery they also have a long shelf life. The family run Reads Nursery was established in the early 1900s and became famed for its Norwich Queen melon which was described as "one of the finest melons in existence". At its peak it sent 2000 melons a day to Covent Garden however as time moved on and imported fruit became cheaper the business turned its focus to ornamental plants.
Allan, the fourth generation to run the nursery has overseen the modernisation and expansion of the nursery in the last 10 years, leading to the opening of Toftwood Garden Centre.
