Original Landscapes was founded in 2001 by Paul Eckett and Robert Green, having previously worked together for many years at an established landscaping company. Pauls' career started in agriculture, and moved into horticulture where he quickly rose to a managerial level at several leading local landscaping companies. This enabled him to become proficient in contract pricing, the management of teams and the running of projects.
Rob on the other hand started in the construction industry but swiftly moved into landscaping; and was soon in charge of the construction of some of the larger projects in the area, specialising in stonework, brickwork and of course paving, all to the very highest standards. With many years of experience in the landscaping and construction industries, as well as the shared commitment to imaginative design and high quality workmanship, the company formed a foundation that would support its speedy growth.
Our success stems from employing skilled craftsmen, almost all the work is carried out in-house and one of us will be on site working and overseeing the project.

A simple project where the client wanted to improve the all year interest in an existing dull border and remove a small area of lawn to reduce maintenance.
The existing planting was selectively thinned, the lawn was stripped of turf and excavated to accommodate the new gravel path.
The border was reshaped to be more pleasing to the eye and edged with a timber gravel board.
Finally the bed was redesigned, the soil improved and cultivate and ultimately planted with a mixture of shrubs and herbaceous perennials.

A project where the client wanted to make use of an existing sloping lawn in the garden.
We designed and constructed a pair of informal ponds linked by a series of small waterfalls and a stream.
The ponds are lined with a butyl rubber liner, which is masked with rockery stone and soil.
A submersible pump transfers water from the lower pool to the upper one to create the flow of water down the stream.
Finally the pond was stocked with aquatic plants, and the surrounding beds planted with mixed shrubs and herbaceous plants.

A large scale project in Dorset centred on a new swimming pool, the pool was installed by sub-contractors under our supervision to ensure that it's positioning, which was crucial to the design, was accurate.
The existing area of lawn had to be stripped of topsoil, and then excavated further to create a level area in which the pool could sit, and then the pool itself was excavated before the sub-contractors carried out the pool installation.
The pool is surrounded by riven York stone paving, and beyond that lawns which were laid with turf.

We rarely work outside the south west, but when we were asked to build a garden for The Rt. Hon the Lord Michael Heseltine, we spent several weeks in Oxfordshire.
The area we constructed was a new rose garden close to the house; as Lord Heseltine has full time gardening staff we were contracted to undertake the hard landscape element of the garden.
The project consisted rebuilding and realigning a large random stone retaining wall, building two separate flights of steps in local Horton stone with random walls topped with sawn stone coping stones, the side walls of which incorporated stone piers with rusticate stone banding.

The 2011 APL awards winning project, designed by Amanda Patton, required every surface to be altered within the external area of the property.
Every plant in the garden was replaced with the exception of a single willow tree, and a pair of Box in the front garden.
The site was divided into five distinct areas.
The front garden with salvaged stone paths, and raised rose beds.
A central area where walls were constructed in reclaimed and local Sherborne stone, capped with sawn York stone, with terraces and paths constructed in sawn York stone, and formal lawn.
