West County Landscapes was established in 1993 and incorporated in 2012. This well established, professional firm has a wealth of experience and over this time have developed a large customer base in both domestic and commercial garden and landscape services covering West Yorkshire, Saddleworth and Oldham. All our staff are well experienced and fully trained to deliver a high standard of work whether it's grass cutting or a complete garden redesign that requires more specialist skills.

We employ staff from both Wakefield and Oldham and the company is fully insured to carry out all the services we provide. After many years building on our success and customer satisfaction in the landscape and garden services industry we are now also specialising in tree services. This new service headed by my son Daniel is part of our ongoing willingness to better and improve our service.

Andrew established the business and has over 35 years of garden and landscaping experience.
He studied for a National Certificate in Horticulture at Askham Bryan College in York and his experience includes: commercial landscaping, forestry, commercial tree and shrub growing plus a wide range of knowledge of plants and horticulture.
As the Managing Director of West County Landscapes Ltd he is responsible for the overall running of the company, health and safety, staff recruitment, accounting, advertising and the assessment and estimation of all new jobs.
When visiting a garden for the first time, I have a look around with the customer to find what ideas and requirements they have for their garden.
There are always plants which we, and some customers, will call weeds so to ensure no mistakes are made we need to find this out along with likes and dislikes which in your eye is a plant or a weed, for example; yellowing flowering poppy or wild viola or creeping jenny to name just a few.
If you require any design suggestions for the garden, planting schemes, plant thinning or shrub/ tree/ hedge/specialist trimming known as topiary which we do, these will be discussed during our initial visit and can also can be talked about again in any future visits.
We always use good quality, high performance Honda and Mountfield Tractor mowers.
These enable us to consistently deliver a high standard of work and finish in each garden.
Due to the nature of our business, and many of our gardens being uneven or on a slope, we generally use 4 wheeled mowers which prevent them from sliding around and provide additional safety for the staff.
We also have a range of roller mowers for gardens with flat lawns and any customers who specifically request we use these.
We edge lawns around the borders using lawn shears rather than strimmers.
All our shears are regularly maintained and sharpened which ensures a nice finish.
As we edge we slightly angle the shears backwards so this leaves the grass tips in line with the soil.
Around the drive or paths we use a different tool called a half moon.
We this use to slide down between the grass edge and the path or drive to create a nice clean finish.
The half moon is also used for cutting turf, re-edging a lawn or cutting through the lawn to create a new border.
For hoeing we use a three pointed fork hoe rather than a Dutch hoe.
The reason for this is that it is easier to turn the soil over and less likely to damage plants or bulbs etc.
We use the fork hoe by holding it with a firm grip and then pushing it into the soil and twisting it so the soil turns over.
When maintaining gardens weekly, we find that because the soil is turned over every week the weeds do not have chance to grow or take hold.
For gardens that we maintain 3 weekly or monthly we usually have to spend longer weeding and hoeing.
